Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has once again proven its place among the aviation elite. According to the 2025 Skytrax World Airport Awards, YVR has been named the Best Airport in North America, a title it has now claimed 14 times in the last 16 years. Interestingly, it has also broken into the top 15 airports worldwide, securing the 13th spot on the global list.
This is the second consecutive year YVR has taken the top spot in North America, having also led the region in 2024. In 2023, it came in second. The airport’s consistent excellence is no surprise—it’s the result of long-term investment, a strong team, and a focus on the passenger experience.
“I am thrilled that YVR has been recognized as the Best Airport in North America and is ranked among the world’s top airports,” said Tamara Vrooman, President and CEO of Vancouver Airport Authority. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication and passion of our incredible team, our valued community, and the trusted partners we work alongside every day. This award belongs to all of us.”
While Asian and European airports dominated the global rankings, YVR still stood out among its Western Hemisphere peers. It is the only North American airport in the global top 20. Singapore’s Changi Airport took the number one spot overall, followed by top facilities in Qatar, South Korea, and Japan. Paris Charles de Gaulle was the highest-ranked European airport at number seven.
After Vancouver, Houston Hobby was the next North American entry at 27th, while Montreal-Trudeau and Toronto Pearson came in at 51st and 55th, respectively. No other Canadian airports made the top 100.
The Skytrax World Airport Awards are considered one of the most prestigious honors in global aviation. Based on a massive global passenger survey conducted between August 2024 and February 2025, the awards evaluate everything from check-in and security to shopping, dining, and overall ease of travel. More than 100 nationalities participated in the survey, giving the results a broad and diverse perspective.
YVR is not just a leader in passenger reliability, it is also an economic engine. In 2024, the airport saw 26.2 million travelers and handled over 339,000 tonnes of cargo. The total economic output generated was a staggering $23 billion.
This recognition reaffirms YVR’s vital role in connecting Canada to the world; it does its job with excellence.
